We can make smoothies!!!

Ok so are you dreading sitting in a room with lawn chair, a funky smell and a ton of work to do? Is it getting dark outside and starting to make you wonder how long you have been there? Well then, it is time to procrastinate! Erin and I are in this situation right now and our brain just worked like this:

i want food- i want a drink-caramel coffee from williams- omg ice capp!!- we could walk to timmies- student center?- or sports center- we could get smoothies- we could make smoothies- i have bananas- i have strawberries and raspberries- i could bring down my magic bullet and we could make smoothies!!!!

So as you can see we are finding all sorts of ways to procrastinate.

Engineers try to be clever

There is so much that bothers me about the “cocky-ness” of engineers. Ha ha see what I did there. That was clever. Recently I have had the opportunity to get to know some engineers and realize that they try to be clever but cannot.

Example 1: Making a musical about artsies. It is one thing to make a distinction between those in humanities and those in engineering. Just because we dont have CAPA, or math tests or 3 hour labs dont mean that we dont have the same amount of work to do. We have essays, research papers and projects. All nof these can not be done in the comfort of our home in front of the computer. We actually get out into the real world and make observations and do research.

Example 2: Calling the artsies “spatulas” because they believe that their degree is more useful then ours. Well first of all, there are many jobs that you can get with a degree in humanities such as a lawyer to bail those engineers out who built a faulty bridge. And you know what maybe some people enjoy working in restaurants. Without us how are planning to eat? Who the hell is going to make you diner when you are too lazy to figure out how to do it on your own?

Example 3: Engineers should not try and take something that is predominantly a hummer thing and make it their own and mock the original. Take the engineering musicals that have been put on. The lack of dancers in engineering is obvious when every single dance uses the box step to fill up space. Not saying that there isn’t some actual talent in these things because there is, its just that it also lacks some.  And creating a song called “If I were an Artsy” is not clever at all as you had to take a premade tune and put non-rhyming lyrics to it.

All in all, engineers need to bring their heads back down from the clouds and realize that they are not so high and mighty. And that they are just looking for a way to fit in.

The world of religion…

Ok so I am sitting in religion and trying to pay attention. The prof is putting up huge chunks of text on the screen. How is anyone supposed to learn from huge chunks of biblical texts? Larua, Amanda and I are sitting here and are extremely bored. Don’t judge me. You would be too. Don’t get me wrong. Religion is interesting and all but if there is no attempt to make it interesting and appeal to the audience, people will just turn off and do something better with their time. Maybe the prof will see that as people keep leaving her class when they see she has 33 slides of pure scripture. This is just frustrating. Nest 003Ya, we totally just took a picture in the middle of class. :)

Almost clever advertizing

Ok so you go to university to get an education and to voice your opinions. And in doing this you explore all types of clubs and meet many different people. And these functions advertize. I understand that you need a catchy ad to get people involved. But is there really a need for putting acronyms all over the place that no one knows. And then its another thing that is really annoying when people go an deface these things because they are ignorant. Arg!

Rrrrrrrroll Up the Rrrrrrrim Prrrrrrrrrrrrrocrastination

So instead of doing all my essays for the past couple days, I have found myself finding excuses to go get tea from Tim Hortons. Not only is this because I dont have regular things in my fridge to drink but its is because I am procrastinating and really want to win something. Come on I mean, who doesn’t want to win a car or even a coffee from rolling up the lip from a paper cup. And if you did win, think how grateful you would be that you decided to procrastinate and get something to drink. So far the winning score is 0-4. I am not doing so well but I am determined to win something this time around so I can see myself making many a trip to Tim Hortons to get me through the night. Thank you Rrrrroll up the Rrrrim for providing sufficient means for procrastination. It is much appreciated. :)

Things that should help procrastination but don’t

Right now in Hamilton there is several inches of snow. I would say about 5. It has been coming down hard and non stop. The roads are ugly, buses have stopped and become stuck, while other buses are delayed. With all of this being taken into account, does the university decide to cancel night classes so that the people who are commuting don’t have to take a risk to get here? NO! The what the hell. What gives someone the right to decide that others should risk their lives to get here to write midterms and attend night classes or labs. I know that other places in Canada have it worse but then again this is not something Hamilton is used to.

This amount of snow should constitute a “snow day”. Remember those? Well apparently in the university world there don’t happen. This amount of snow should be a sign to professors and such that they should give their students a rest and not stress them out anymore then they are right now especially with the ever increasing assignments and not to mention midterms. This is just getting frustrating. And to top it off… I am getting tired of having to change my sock because snow got in my shoes from walking to one building to another.

All in all snow is something that should help procrastination but doesn’t!

University Student Rant #2- Homework

Ok so here’s the deal. I still have 2 out of the 4 pages for my essay to do that is due tomorrow. I have kinda started them but not really so it’s going to be a late night for sure. In addition to doing this I have a newly assigned 6-9 page essay and multiple 2 page reports that just keep coming. All of the assignments are getting bigger because of the reading week.

I don’t understand why university professors think that someone can handle all of this work at one time. There is no was a student can to the essay in 3 days with the essays from other classes. Don’t forget to factor in the time you need you eat, sleep and go to class. Plus is someone has a job that is a lot to juggle. I have 3 night classes a week so I am already tired when I get home. The last thing I want to do is be up to all hours of the morning working just to get the readings and the essay done. I am missing out on sleep and that is effecting everything I do.

Well I guess I should get back to working on the actual paper now and stop putting it off. All I can say is that I hope that somewhere out there, a prof is reading this and considering lightening their course load.

procrastination2

Ok just an update: I am sitting in “The Nest” with my good friend/ drinking buddy/ tard-wring-go-getter-and-eater Jessica. We both have papers due tomorrow. I am almost half way since the last post. Jess hasn’t taken the books out of the plastic yet. Procrastination at its best!
